Massimo Raoul Beckers (1994, St. Gallen, Switzerland) is a conductor based in the Netherlands, known for championing the works of Dutch masters, such as Cornelis Dopper, Johannes Bernardus van Bree and Carolus Antonius Fodor. In his mission to perform and bring renewed attention to the music of these lesser-known composers, he founded a dedicated orchestra; the Orkest van de Utrechtse Heuvelrug. His work has resulted in several notable premieres, including Cornelis Dopper’s Intermezzo from his opera Frithjof, Gerard von Brucken Focks’ 3 Gnomendansjes and the 21st-century premiere of Philip Loots’ 1st Symphony.
In addition to leading the Orkest van de Utrechtse Heuvelrug, Massimo is the chief conductor of the Amsterdams Studenten Orkest, the Barnevelds Kamerorkest and the orchestra of the annual Notenkrakerfestival Baarn. He is a frequent guest conductor, regularly working with orchestras such as the Vechtstreek Symfonieorkest, OVIO, Orkest van het Groene Hart and the wind ensemble of the Utrechts Studenten Koor en Orkest (USKO). He has furthermore made appearances with over 25 other symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, ensembles and choirs throughout the Netherlands.
Massimo holds various academic degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts & Culture (University of Maastricht) and a Master of Musicology (University of Amsterdam), as well as a Bachelor of Music ‘with honors’ (Conservatory of Utrecht) and the diploma of the Meerjarige Dirigentenopleiding. He has taken lessons with esteemed Maestro’s such as Ivo Meinen, Jac van Steen, Hans Noyens and René Gulikers, with whom he also partook in the 11th International Masterclass Conducting Technique. Other masterclass mentors include Jorma Panula and Jim Benjamin Roodnat, as well as John Axelrod, JoAnn Falletta, Sebastian Lang-Lessing and Jean-Luc Tingaud.
